The year of 2023 has bought in new products and trends that were tried, tested, embraced or tossed. The best of the best have be sifted through and here's is the withstanding selection of skincare and makeup must-haves. These products have founds their forever homes atop many makeup vanities and inside many MUA bags and purses world wide. But what makes these special is that, we are a quarter of the year into 2024 and they remain tried-and-true favorites that are here to stay. The Power Grip is has a smooth, gel-like texture. Raved about as a dupe for the aforementioned Milk Primer, at a fraction of the price, elf delivers same the grip and hydration as the Milk Primer. With a medium amount of the tacky feel compared to the Hydro Grip's super tacky grip, the primer hold the base products in place without feel like too tacky on the skin.

Best Water-Based & Skincare-Infused Primer: Refy Glow and Sculpt Face Primer with Niacinamide

The Refy Primer was created for the ultimate sculpt and prime experience for reducing redness, and hydrating the skin all from one skincare-infused roller tube. It is lightweight, and easy to apply. For those you like a light, non-tacky primer for light makeup, this one is good. For those who want a slight sheen without wearing makeup, try this product on its own.

Best Full Coverage Foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation

For combination and oily skin, I cannot recommend this foundation enough. Made to give a lightweight, full (yet buildable) coverage that stays put and matte throughout the day, even in humid climates, this foundation was a tried-and-true favorite. Even skin tone, zero dark spots, and safe for acne prone skin. Bonus, it's great for everyday use as well. Just go in with a light hand. I wore it to my wedding and was greeted with a slew of compliments. 

Best Viral & Worth It Foundation: Haus Labs by Lady Gaga Triclone Skin Tech Medium Coverage Foundation with Fermented Arnica

Haus Labs had quite the year and their skincare-infused foundations were some of the most talked about products in 2023. To no one's surprise, that momentum is still ongoing in 2024. With a medium coverage and a natural finish, this one is ideal for an everyday look or something more grand when you build it up.

Best Skin Tint: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna EAZE DROP BLUR + SMOOTH TINT STICK

Liquid foundations are staples in the beauty industry, but the cream foundation and tints are having a moment with Fenty Beauty's Tint Stick right in the spotlight. It's lightweight and creamy making it easy to apply. For an everyday look, a thin layer of this products sits beautifully on the skin and can be built up to medium coverage. It's hydrating, blurring, and has a natural finish. No cake here. It is my current favorite for an everyday lightweight look.

Best Multi-Purpose Base Corrector: Maybelline Instant Rewind Perfector 4-in-1 Glow Makeup

In the spirit of minimal makeup, comes Maybelline's 4-IN-1 Perfector. Removing the 4 step process on priming, concealing, evening the skin, and highlighting all with the BB-Cream formula. It's great for on-the-go makeup or whenever your makeup look calls for a lightweight look. 

Best Cream Concealer: NARS SOFT MATTE COMPLETE CONCEALER

From beginners to PRO artists, this concealer is the one for everyone with high quality blendability and the resulting blurred and soft focus finish. It's lightweight, long-wearing, and non-drying but with high coverage that rivals the some of the best concealers in the industry. You can use it to conceal and or brighten the face - results for both are top tier.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

By no means is this product a new one, but a staple that has truly withstood the test of time and new launches. This is none other than the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. Year in and out, this powder has found itself on vanity desks and makeup artist kits - this strikes true even for me. Perfect for normal, combo and oily skin, all you need to do is "set it and forget it." No white cast and none to minimal oily residue will follow you throughout the day.

NARS Soft Matte Advanced Perfecting Powder

For all the oily skin pressed powder lovers, NARS brings you the Soft Matte Perfecting Powder. For a medium coverage, blurring, matte finish, this product is great from the start of the day when you paint on your makeup, till the end for on-the-go touch ups. No powdery mess. Just a sleek compact ready to go.

Givenchy Prisme Libre Loose Setting and Finishing Powder

Although this product comes with a price tag that's quite hefty for a powder, I dare say this is one of the few occasions where it is worth every dollar. For the ultra-milled, fine powder experience that allows for makeup to be set with zero tensions about settling into fine lines, try the Givenchy's Prisme Libre Loose Setting and Finishing Powder a try. This is a MUA favorite. 

BRONZER

Best Stick Bronzer/Contour: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Match Stix Matte Contour Skinstick

From beginners to PRO MUAs, this one is a makeup kit must-have. Easy to build, available in wide color selections, the coveted cream-to-powder finish has any reasons to make even a makeup newbie fall into love with the process and results of contouring. It's definitely a must-have in my kit and very versatile as it works great for no makeup makeup looks and full beats alike. 

Best Cream Bronzer: Saie Beauty Cream - Balm Bronzer 

For a cream formula that leaves a natural and non-drying finish with a touch of skincare infusion in the form of colloidal oatmeal, grapeseed oil and elderberry extract to bring you a smooth, hydrated, and bright finish, Saie's balmy bronzer is for you. The bronzer is great blend-ability, build-ability, and wearability, all in a lightweight, balmy texture.

One thing about blushes is that they tend to fade fast but the Rare Beauty's formula has slowed that down too giving you a blush that stays put. No streaky mess. No blotching.

Best Cream & Powder Blush Duo: Patrick Ta Major Headlines Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush Duo

It's creamy, it's long-wearing, and it blends right in. We all know it and love it since its launch. But what I love the most about the Major Headlines Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush Duo is its pigmentation and glow from within look. This product goes against the norm with Patrick Ta using the cream overtop of the powder but the pop of color and skin-like finish this technique paired with this product gives is unmatched. This versatile and inclusive it is to many skin tones. 

Best Viral & Worth it Powder Blush: Dior Rosy Glow Powder Blush

The hype around this blush was long-lasting especially considering the fast paced style of the beauty industry. However, it gives perfect the baby doll, perfect pink, glow from within look that suits just about any occasion and skin tone - as easy as that sounds, its rare for a product to it all. With the high price tag, it's understandable as to why people think twice about purchasing it. There are lots of options out there. But if you get it, chances are, you won't regret it.

Best Drugstore Staple: Milani Baked Blush

This blush has been around for some time, standing strong by the luminous baked blush look that's now an everyday vibe for most. It's affordable. It's blend-able. It's buildable. It stood strong through another year of launches. If it ain't broken, why fix it?

Another hit that's withstood the test of time and new launches, is the Hourglass Lighting Palette. On the opposite spectrum, liquid formulas give room for the artist to play with build-ability and customization when it comes to mixing products to create something that's just right for each individual. From everyday subtle glams to a nice base for loud pops of shine on the cheekbones, this liquid highlighter is here to deliver.

For a palette that gives you the ultimate mix-and-match playground and delivers high-shine highlights that are not for the faint of heart, the Anastasia Beverly Hills highlighter palette is for you. With 4 shades, you can conjure up a light or bronzed glow and anything in between. 

EYES

Best Waterproof & Long-Lasting Formula: INGLOT AMC Eyeliner Gel 77

For the past decade, I have tested pretty much every gel eyeliner to find the most long-lasting, non-smearing, blackest of black, matte liner. While the Maybelline gel pot eyeliner is a very close second, the Inglot eyeliner takes the cake. From stage makeup that lasted through hours of sweat to everyday soft glam eyeliner that stayed put, this one is my absolute favorite (even in the waterline). 

Tip: As with most gel eyeliners, the pot will dry up after a while. The duraline from the Inglot brand, is great to revive the liner and makes it easier to use.

Best Pencil Eyeliner: MAC Eye Kohl Eyeliner

Long-lasting qith smooth application, and easy blend-ability all in one pencil that doubles as a great base for eyeshadow is the MAC Eye Kohl Eyeliner. Try "Costa Riche" for the perfect brown to make brown eyes pop. This is another personal favorite. 

Best Drugstore Pencil Eyeliner: L'Oreal Paris Makeup Infallible Pro-Last Pencil Eyeliner

For a true black, waterproof and smudge-proof waterline, this is my go-to eyeliner. It's creamy, glides on smoothly and truly does not budge. For the black of black shades, try this eyeliner in the shade "Black Noir." 

Best Glitter-Inclusive Eyeshadow Palette: Huda Beauty Empowered Eyeshadow Palette

The Huda Beauty Eyeshadow formula is one that is much-loved and this palette especially is a go-to in my collection. With metallic, shimmer formulas that are creamy and long-wearing, and mattes that are easily blend-able and pigmented, the palette allows a variety of look - versatile stage makeup to soft glam everyday natural. Bonus, there are two cream base/gel-liner formulas to create a dark base for eyeshadow to go on top of or blend out for a perfect smoky eye look.

Best Matte Eyeshadow Palette: Patrick Ta Major Dimension III Matte Eyeshadow Palette

An all matte palette might sound boring when you first look at it but for most looks mattes are the base that pull the whole vibe together. Made by a MUA, this eyeshadow palette is an essential in every MUA kit and great for beginners with its easy blend-ability paired with great color pay off. It's hard to find a palette that has an organized section of matte neutral warm and nude colors, but this one delivers. This palette comes with two creamy gel formulas that serve as the perfect base or eyeliner formula. I love it for everyday looks specifically but can confirm that it performs just as well when a full beat is at hand.

Best Mascara: Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara

The Essence mascaras are the definition of budget-friendly glam. One application and you're set for the day. No clumped eyelashes. No mess.

Best Highend Eyebrow: Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil Waterproof Eyebrow Definer

Eyebrow pencils are tricky because to carve out the perfect brow, you need a product that is just the right amount of creamy and stick to give you the control you need to create soft, hair-like strokes. The Benefit eyebrow pencil is a tried-and-true that does just that. It's great for everyday looks and is waterproof. You can also amp it up for stage makeup.

Best Drugstore Eyebrow: NYX Professional Makeup Micro Brow Pencil Vegan Eyebrow Pencil

If the price point for the benefit eyebrow pencil is too high for a product that requires frequent repurchasing, this NYX Eyebrow Pencil is a great alternative. It's one that I always have backups of and works great on various hair textures. It's also waterproof.

LIPS

Best Sheer Lipstick: Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

This "almost lipstick" is the perfect in between of a lip balm and a lipstick without the tacky feeling or heavy texture. It's soft and buttery, leaving behind a very subtle and soft stain over the course of the everyday. It's my everyday go-to and has a permanent place in my purse.

Best Highend Lip Oil: Dior Lip Glow Oil

2023 had a lot of talk about Dior's Lip Oil and that hasn't subsided in 2024 just yet. With an importance towards high-shine and hydration, this lip oil is a comfortable, non-drying fit for the everyday look. Just add another coat, to increase the color. 

Best Drugstore Lip Oil: NYX Fat Oil

For a coat of ultra-shine with a layer of thickness that looks and gives the juicy lips on a drugstore budget, pick up the NYX Fat Oil. Available in a multitude of shades, this viral product has rightfully earned a permanent spot on top of many vanities in this year, including mine.

Best Lipliner: MAC Lip Liner Pencil

Another product that has withstood the test of time and new launches are the MAC lipliners. From the original makeup brand in the game come smooth, creamy, long-lasting formulas that pair well with variety of lip products - lipglosses, to lip oils and lipsticks, you name it. It's a tried-and-true formula and another one of my favorites. Try the "Chestnut" for the perfect deep brown shade.

SETTING SPRAY

Best Drugstore Setting Spray: Milani MAKE IT LAST ORIGINAL - NATURAL FINISH SETTING SPRAY

This drugstore all-in-one spray is waterproof, long-lasting, and skincare-infused. My favorite part is that it truly is "budge-proof" and your makeup is set for the day. Whether it's for an indoor day at work or outdoors stage performance, your makeup will stay put. 

Tip: If you are on the oily side, the finish will not be entirely matte through the day. If you enjoy a light sheen, give this one a try. 

Best Highend: Urban Decay ALL NIGHTER WATERPROOF MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY

This waterproof, smudge-proof, transfer-proof favorite has a fine mist that sets the base in soft comfortable spritz. This MUA-must have is great for setting everyday looks all the way up to stage makeup.
